Job Opportunity: IMC - Nurse Manager, Emergency Department
Location: Brooklyn, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
The Nurse Manager for the Emergency Department is responsible for 24-hour oversight of patient care assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role includes directing and leading nursing care within the ED, fostering collaboration among healthcare team members, and providing weekend and holiday coverage as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Performance
- Develop long-term staffing schedules and ensure adequate daily coverage.
- Monitor unit performance metrics including agency/overtime costs, vacancy, and turnover rates.
- Oversee daily workflow, staffing, orientation, training, and employee development.
- Lead quality and performance improvement initiatives in the ED.
- Promote a collaborative team approach for ED and trauma patient care.
- Monitor patient volume, quality of care, and staff performance to identify improvement areas.
- Maintain a departmental dashboard tracking people, service, quality, and leadership metrics.
- Investigate and resolve patient, physician, and staff complaints.
- Ensure competencies are maintained for self and staff.
Clinical Practice / Patient Care
- Collaborate with nursing leadership to establish and evaluate nursing care standards.
- Keep nursing staff informed of relevant protocols.
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for patients, families, and staff.
- Ensure equal access to treatment regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, disability, age, or sexual orientation.
Management
- Participate in service planning processes.
- Conduct monthly staff meetings to discuss equipment, scheduling, goals, performance metrics, and concerns.
Human Resource Development / Management
- Educate and evaluate staff performance.
- Work with leadership and HR on counseling, discipline, and termination as needed.
- Train staff on new and existing procedures and systems.
- Foster an atmosphere of respect and courtesy among patients, staff, and colleagues.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of nursing management and/or supervisory experience in the Emergency Department.
- Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing.
- Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS required.
- Skills:
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Professionalism in managing difficult interactions with patients, physicians, and others.
- Excellent problem-solving and creative skills to improve programs.
- Proficient verbal and written English communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- TNCC certification preferred.
