Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg/PCU/Tele RN - 5N Neuro Trauma

Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Unit Type: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) - Neuro Trauma focus
• Beds: 28
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Days: 1:4-5
  • Nights: 1:5-6 (dependent on acuity)
• Common Patient Diagnoses:

  • Neurological: strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barre syndrome, Myasthenia gravis, spinal injuries, thrombectomies, TNK/TPA post-treatment, AMS, dementia
  • Trauma/Ortho: hematomas, bleeds, falls on blood thinners, farm and motor vehicle accidents

Required Qualifications

• Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg, PCU, or ICU experience
  • Experience must be within the last 1 year
  • Drip experience required; RNs must be able to titrate drips (Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, 3%, Insulin)
  • Preferred: Experience with home trach vents; willingness to learn ventilator management (training provided)
  • Open to first-time travel nurses
• Certifications:

  • BLS (AHA)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• License:

  • Valid RN license for Wisconsin

Work Environment & Scheduling

• Shifts: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
• Scheduling: Self-scheduling with manager balancing; schedule opens 6 weeks in advance
• Weekend Requirement: Every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• Holiday Requirement: Typically 2 out of 3 winter holidays, plus every other holiday
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating: Required to float to sister Med Surg units with various specialties (mixed care, cardiac, general, ortho, heme/onc)
• Charge Nurse Role: Nights take full team assignment; days take smaller assignment
• Nurse Aides: Present (Day ratio 1:9, Night ratio 1:12)
• Telemetry: Central monitor located separately; RNs not required to read their own strips

Orientation & Training

• Unit-specific orientation: 1 shift general orientation + 1 shift with preceptor

Additional Information

• Scrub Color/Dress Code: Any solid color scrubs
• Must clock in and out at the facility
• Prior employment with the facility requires a minimum 6-month gap before reapplying

Prior Travel Experience

• Not required; open to first-time travelers
