Job Opportunity: Stepdown/PCU Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour nights (1845-0715), with option to accommodate 4x12 hour shifts if preferred
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- Patient Ratios/Daily Caseload: Not specified
- Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
- Local Candidates: Accepted with no radius restrictions
- License: Must have an active Illinois RN license (no pending licenses accepted)
- Return to Office Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Stepdown unit
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience with telemetry monitoring on the unit
- Skilled in use of Rapid Response Teams
- Experience caring for post cardiac angiogram patients
- Competent in sheath removal and TR Band management
- Feeding tube care and management expertise
- Pre- and post-hemodialysis patient management
- Skilled in accessing ports
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or equivalent
- NIH Certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Preferred but not required
Schedule & Work Environment
- Acute care hospital setting
- Level I trauma center
- Magnet designated hospital
- 562 staffed beds
- Scrub color: Any solid color
- Charting system: Cerner
Additional Requirements
- Must work every other weekend
- Background checks and verifications required (including education, licensure, and criminal background)
- Physical exam within one year of start date
- Fit mask test required prior to start
- Immunizations and health screenings required (e.g., TB test, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, flu vaccine or exemption)
- Drug screening within 30 days of start
- Competency exam required for clinical candidates
- Badge photo required before start
- Parking permit required (no cost)
Notes
- Prior travel experience is not accepted for first-time travelers; candidates must have completed at least one prior travel contract.
- On-call shifts are not required.
- Candidates should be prepared for possible schedule flexibility and floating within the unit scope.
This position is ideal for experienced Stepdown/PCU RNs seeking a travel contract in an acute care, Level I trauma, Magnet hospital environment with a strong focus on cardiac, neurological, and critical care skills.
