Registered Nurse - IMC/Stepdown/PCU
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Days: 06:45 AM - 07:15 PM)
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty (first-time travelers not accepted)
- License Requirement: Active Illinois RN license required (no pending licenses accepted)
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: May float within scope as needed
- Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
- Guaranteed Hours: Subject to client call-offs up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment
Required Clinical Experience & Skills
- Work Setting Experience: Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown
- Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response:
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Telemetry monitoring on unit
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Cardiovascular:
- Post Cardiac Angiogram, MI, Cardiac Cath, Cardiac Surgery
- Sheath Removal, TR Band care
- Gastrointestinal: Feeding tube care and management
- Genitourinary/Renal: Pre/Post Hemodialysis management, renal failure care
- IV Therapy/Phlebotomy:
- Accessing ports, arterial line management
- Blood product administration
- Central line and PICC line care/management
- Phlebotomy, peripheral line care, starting IVs
- Medication Management:
- Heparin protocols
- Manage cardiac and vasoactive drips (with and without titration)
- PCA, procedural sedation administration
- Neurological/Psychiatric:
- Craniotomy, CVA, pre/post neurosurgery
- Spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury
- Orthopedics: Ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, total joint replacements
- Plastic Surgery: Skin grafts, surgical drains
- Respiratory:
- Care of ventilated patients
- Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
- External CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
- Interpretation of ABGs
- Nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
- Non-invasive airway management, tracheostomy management
- Professional Skills: Isolation precautions, wound care/wound vac
- Preferred Experience: Cerner charting, teaching hospital, Level I trauma center experience
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- NIH Certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Preferred but not mandatory
Additional Requirements
- Must work every other weekend
- Ability to float within scope as needed
- Must have no more than 5 days Return to Office (RTO) restrictions ideally
- Scrub color: Any solid color
- Charting system: Cerner preferred
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Illinois RN license (primary source verification required)
- Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
- Immunizations and/or titers for:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines, positive titer, or declination)
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- TB testing (2-step PPD, TSPOT, or Qgold) within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
- Competency exam required for all clinical candidates
- Professional references: 2 required
- Badge photo required prior to start
- Various state-specific criminal and abuse registry checks required within 30 days of start

- Acute care hospital with 562 staffed beds
- Level I trauma center
- Magnet designated hospital
- Parking permit required (no cost)

- First-time travel nurses are not accepted for this assignment
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
