Description
Respiratory Therapist
Location: Akron, Ohio
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Confirm physician orders, assess appropriateness, and ensure quality patient care.
- Notify healthcare team of any unusual patient reactions during treatment.
- Assess, evaluate, document, and monitor patient tolerance and response to therapy.
- Explain treatment procedures to patients and address concerns.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Perform respiratory/pulmonary procedures according to department protocols.
- Respond to emergencies and participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Set up and maintain respiratory equipment; administer medical gases and medications.
- Assist with stocking supplies and complete billing information for services.
- Participate in patient care teams and quality improvement programs.
- Provide education to patients, families, students, and healthcare professionals.
- Attend in-services, meetings, and conferences to stay current on techniques and equipment.
- Maintain proficiency in respiratory care skills as required by regulatory agencies.
Required Qualifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical practice in an acute care setting, including experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) certification.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification.
- American Medical Technologists (AMT) or American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification.
- Compliance with health and safety requirements including:
- Fit testing for N95 masks (within one year, updated annually).
- Pre-employment physical demonstrating ability to perform essential job functions.
- Immunizations and/or titers for MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Influenza (seasonal), Tdap (optional).
- Tuberculosis screening (2-step PPD or IGRA) and annual TB questionnaire.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually.
- Background checks including criminal, OIG, EPLS, and education verifications.
- Social Security card or number required.
- Agencies must complete work order confirmation upon candidate acceptance.

- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
- COVID-19 vaccination is strongly encouraged; medical or religious exemptions considered case-by-case.
- Candidates must maintain all required certifications and health screenings updated annually.
