Description

Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Med Surg RN - Urology/Nephrology)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 3x12 hour nights (1845-0715)
Unit: 25-bed Medical Surgical unit with average daily census of 23 patients
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
On-Call: Not required
Floating: Yes, within scope to other Medical Surgical units


Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications issued by the American Heart Association
  • Experience in Charge nurse roles
  • Med Surg and Telemetry experience including remote monitoring
  • Pre/Post hemodialysis management experience
  • Renal failure case experience
  • Rapid Response Teams experience
  • IV therapy skills including starting IVs
  • Central line blood draw experience
  • Peripheral line care and management experience
  • PICC line management experience
  • Respiratory care skills including chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, and High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
  • Wound care experience including Wound Vac
  • Experience with Cerner electronic health record system

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers: Accepted if they have a solid RN foundation and >2 years medical/surgical experience
  • Locals: Accepted, no radius restrictions
  • Schedule flexibility: Block scheduling may be accommodated but not guaranteed
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
  • Scrub Color: Any solid color scrubs allowed
  • Parking: Permit required, no cost

Required Pre-Employment and Ongoing Compliance

  • Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Primary source verification of licenses and certifications
  • Competency exam required for clinical candidates
  • Physical exam within one year of start, including labs and documentation of good health and ability to perform job functions
  • Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within one year
  • Immunizations or documented immunity for MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Drug screening (9-panel) within 30 days of start
  • Annual flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required
  • References: 2 professional references required for clinical candidates

Notes

  • Candidate must be able to float to other medical surgical units as needed
  • No on-call shifts required
  • Must be willing to work every other weekend
  • Cerner charting system used
  • Acute care hospital environment, Level I trauma center, Magnet recognized facility

This position is ideal for experienced Med Surg RNs with strong clinical skills in urology/nephrology and telemetry who are interested in a travel contract assignment with night shifts.
