Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Gastroenterology
Location: Berkeley, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with a strong background in complex gastroenterology procedures, including ERCP cases. The RN will be responsible for managing nursing care from admission to discharge, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and quality care in accordance with nursing standards and hospital policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate nursing care for patients in the GI lab.
- Provide competent, compassionate, and cost-effective care.
- Perform disease prevention and restorative measures.
- Respond to medical and environmental emergencies.
- Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments including biophysical, psychosocial, spiritual, environmental, self-care, educational, and discharge planning factors.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
- Collaborate with physicians, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Administer treatments and medications timely.
- Monitor patient condition and communicate significant changes to physicians.
- Participate in clinical rounds and maintain accurate patient acuity documentation.
- Serve as liaison between nursing and medical staff.
Schedule Requirements
- Weekend shifts: Every other weekend
- On-call: As needed
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of endoscopy experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience with complex gastroenterology studies, including ERCP cases
- Minimum 6 months of travel nursing experience
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- PALS certification
- NRP certification
- CCRN certification
- TNCC certification
- MAB certification
- NIHSS certification
- CPI certification
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check including SSN trace, county searches, sex offender, and education verification
- Annual updates for EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and FACIS Level 3 screening
- Education verification (Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred)
- Drug screening (9-panel, excluding marijuana/cannabinoids per California law)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- TB test or chest x-ray (annual renewal)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
- Hepatitis B series or declination
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season
- Fit test for respiratory protection (annual renewal)
- Completion of facility-specific orientation, confidentiality, and compliance documents prior to start
Additional Requirements
- Full 7 years of work history with no gaps in employment
- Unit-specific skills checklist (annual renewal)
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years (clinical/allied roles)
- Competency exams as applicable (medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG)
Notes
- Prior travel nursing experience is preferred but not explicitly required.
- Candidate must be able to work weekends every other week and be available for on-call as needed.
- This is a travel contract position with a 13-week duration.
