Registered Nurse (RN) - Stepdown (Nights)

Job Description
The Cardiovascular Registered Nurse (RN) uses clinical judgment to diagnose and treat patient responses to actual or potential health conditions. This role is part of a specialized Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) caring for cardiology patients undergoing procedures such as PTCA, stents, TAVR, MitraClip, and bi-ventricular pacemakers. The unit also manages post-op open heart surgery patients (18-24 hours post-op), congestive heart failure, and electrophysiology studies.
The unit has received recognition for excellence in patient care and outcomes, including a Silver level Beacon Award and designation as a Top 50 Heart Hospital. The environment is fast-paced and patient-centered, emphasizing safety, quality care, and evidence-based practice.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Michigan
- Minimum 1 year of Cardiac Stepdown experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment

- The unit is a 28-bed Medical Surgical Unit with a diverse patient population including general and vascular surgery, bariatric surgery, plastic surgery, trauma, and stroke care.
- The work environment promotes teamwork, positivity, and professional growth through an active Unit Based Council (Shared Governance).
- Orientation and support are provided for new team members to develop their nursing practice.
- The interdisciplinary care team uses clinical pathways, patient education, and interactive communication to ensure excellent patient outcomes.
Important Policies
- Strict 3 strike attendance policy effective 6/1/2024: Absence or lateness over 20 minutes for 3 shifts leads to immediate termination unless excused with supporting evidence (e.g., communicable disease, hospitalization).
- Full-time employees of the health system are not eligible for contract hire within six months of employment.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with cardiac stepdown skills seeking a temporary assignment in a highly regarded cardiovascular care environment.
