Job Opportunity: Special Procedures Technologist
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Perform special procedures under the supervision of certified radiologists following established protocols.
- Assist radiologists during procedures and supervise student Radiologic Technologists.
- Ensure patient care and safety during imaging procedures with age-appropriate care.
- Obtain correct written orders and prepare patients for imaging procedures, including assisting with informed consent.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, radiologists, and healthcare team members.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to procedures.
- Adhere to radiation safety guidelines and regulatory standards (ALARA principles, OSHA, DHEC, FDA, TJC).
- Participate in clinical education of students and support departmental goals and projects.
- Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, flexibility, and teamwork.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years as a Radiologic Technologist OR at least 1 year experience in Special Procedures/Vascular Interventional Radiology.
Required Education
- Graduate of an accredited Allied Health Professional program.
Required Certifications & Licensure
- South Carolina Radiation Quality Standard Association (SCRQSA) Radiographer Certification
- ARRT Radiography (R) Certification
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association
Preferred Certifications
- Completion of an AART accredited Vascular Interventional Radiology Program
- AART Vascular Interventional Radiology Certification
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to perform and teach Special Procedures exams to produce diagnostic-quality films.
- Knowledge of relevant safety and regulatory standards.
- Competence in operating special procedures and processing equipment.
- Ability to use standard office equipment.

- Must maintain strict confidentiality of patient and work-related information.
- Professional appearance and mature demeanor required.
- Must complete annual mandatory in-services and maintain current licensure.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Special Procedures Technologist license in South Carolina
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Special Procedures Technologist, with experience within the last year
- Experience as a Radiologic Technologist
- South Carolina Radiation Quality Standard Association (SCRQSA) Radiographer Certification
- ARRT Radiography (R) Certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
