Description

PICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Shift: Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Provide specialized nursing care in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for patients up to 25 years old.
  • Experience with epilepsy monitoring, EKGs, and inotropes required.
  • Must work at least every other holiday.
  • Orientation includes passing ECG rhythm recognition and SafeMedicate medication administration exams.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) or related specialty prior to travel assignments, with at least 1 year of clinical experience within the last year.
  • Current certifications issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Experience working with Pediatric patients.
  • Experience with epilepsy monitoring.
  • Experience with inotropes.

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required with official documentation:
    • Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titers)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination (required annually; no declinations accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, with annual updates if applicable.
  • Drug screening (standard 10-panel) within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year.

Background and Documentation

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required and must be carried on assignment.
  • Background check including FCRA-compliant 7-year search, updated annually or after breaks in service of 2+ months.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting within 12 months, updated annually; must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract.
  • Education verification required for all candidates.
  • Employment application with at least 3 years prior work history, including 2 years clinical acute care in a similar specialty.
  • Two professional references from within 1 year of start date (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).

Orientation and Training

  • Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome).
  • Modules include mandatory training videos and tests; skipping videos will lock access.
  • SafeMedicate preparation materials provided before orientation.
  • Badge photo required (headshot, shoulders up, white background).

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared to complete competency exams and pass with required scores during orientation.
  • Prior travel experience is accepted but not explicitly required.
  • Must be able to work night shifts and meet holiday work requirements.

This position is ideal for experienced Pediatric ICU nurses with strong clinical skills in pediatric critical care, epilepsy monitoring, and cardiac rhythm recognition, who hold the necessary Ohio licensure and certifications.
