Registered Nurse – Med/Surg Telemetry (Night Shift) – Ohio
Job Details
- Location: Mayfield Heights, Ohio
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on a Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit during night shifts.
- Must have a minimum of 18 months recent permanent experience in Med/Surg Telemetry prior to travel assignment.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Minimum 1.5 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, with experience within the last year.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (e.g., Driver’s License or State ID) must be carried on assignment.
- Background checks including FCRA-compliant 7-year search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks, and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) are required and must be current.
- Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing and updated annually.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming ability to safely perform job functions.
- Fit mask (3M N95 1860 small/regular or 1870+) within 12 months of start, updated annually.
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray with annual questionnaire if history positive
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or declination accepted with agency-approved exemptions
- Varicella vaccinations or positive titer with booster if needed
- Annual flu vaccination (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions require agency approval)
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant tests not accepted).
- Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start.
- References: 2 professional references from employment within 1 year, from a manager or supervisor.
- Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years in acute care and similar clinical area.
Orientation and Training
- Completion of facility-specific online onboarding modules prior to start is mandatory.
- Baseline competency exams (medication administration and ECG interpretation) required at orientation for bedside RNs (except OR RNs).
- SafeMedicate preparation materials provided for exam preparation.
- Candidates with less than 6 months gap from previous assignment at the same health system may be exempt from some orientation/testing requirements.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must ensure all documentation matches legal name exactly.
- Fingerprinting results must be submitted and approved before contract extension.
- Facility requires latex allergy notification if applicable.
- PAPRs are not provided for failure due to facial hair; religious or medical exemptions must be approved.
- Candidates can start with fingerprinting results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start.
- Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone.
- Physical exam and eye exam do not need to be updated annually if currently on assignment without a break longer than 30 days.
This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RNs licensed in Ohio or compact states, seeking a night shift travel contract with a reputable healthcare facility.
