Registered Nurse (RN) - Step Down (Cardiac Med Intermediate Care Unit)

Location: Cape Girardeau, Missouri

Unit & Work Environment

• Unit: Cardiac Med Intermediate Care Unit (Stepdown)
• Number of Beds: 14
• Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 3-4 patients
• Patient Types: Heart, Lung, Vascular; progressive level patients including cardiology, stepdown from OR & ICU, sepsis, pneumonia, oncology
• Equipment: Lines, chest tubes, vasoactive drips
• EMR System: EPIC (experience with EPIC is required)
• Shift: Nights
• Weekly Hours: 36 guaranteed (option for 48 hours/week available)
• Weekend Hours: As needed, with standard expectation of every other full weekend worked
• Call Requirements: None
• Dress Code: Black scrubs

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Missouri
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 1 year of Cardiac Stepdown experience, with experience within the last year
• Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system
• ACLS and BLS certifications
• Flu vaccination required for travel period November 1 - April 1 (exceptions require approval)

Job Responsibilities

• Develop nursing diagnoses and care plans; establish nursing care objectives and interventions
• Provide physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families
• Monitor, record, and report patient symptoms and changes in condition
• Administer medications, wound care, IV therapy including central line care
• Prepare patients for exams and assist with procedures
• Educate patients and families on health management, disease prevention, and self-care
• Maintain safe patient care environment by adhering to infection control, medication administration, and safety protocols
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with healthcare team members
• Supervise and delegate duties to unlicensed assistive personnel and ancillary staff
• Ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards and National Patient Safety Goals
• Act as patient advocate and promote a culture of safety

Additional Information

• Facility is a Level 3 Emergency and Trauma Center with certifications including Comprehensive Cardiac Center and Primary Stroke Center
• Candidates should expect to work at least one major winter holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s Day)
• Up to 5 days off per 13-week contract can be automatically approved; additional time off requires leader approval and may need to be made up
