Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (OR) (Days)

Location: Glens Falls, New York

Job Description

  • Provide surgical patient care by assessing, planning, and implementing nursing care before, during, and after surgery.
  • Maintain a sterile and safe surgical environment.
  • Educate patients pre- and post-operatively.
  • Monitor patients’ physical and emotional well-being.
  • Coordinate patient care throughout the surgical continuum.
  • Primarily a circulating nurse position; scrub experience is a valuable additional skill.
  • Patient population includes pediatric through adult.
  • Surgical specialties covered include vascular surgery, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, robotic surgery, urology, and ENT.
  • Coverage includes 14 operating rooms, including Labor & Delivery for C-sections.
  • Average of 50 procedures per day.
  • EMR system used: EPIC.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2+ years of current Operating Room nursing experience.
  • Strong skills in vascular surgery and orthopedic trauma.
  • Experience with general surgery, robotic surgery, urology, and ENT.
  • Prior travel nursing experience is required.
  • EPIC experience is required.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • Experience in both scrub and circulating roles required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have own vehicle (firm requirement).
  • Must hold a valid New York Temporary Health Care Service Agency License/Registration Certificate.
  • Must pass a 14-panel drug screen within 24 hours of offer acceptance. The panel includes testing for Amphetamines, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, Cocaine Metabolite, Opiates, Phencyclidine, Methadone, Methaqualone, Propoxyphene, Buprenorphine, and 6-Acetylmorphine.
  • Completion of verbal de-escalation training from one of the approved programs (Welle, CPI, or PMCS) is required for onboarding and clearance as of 1/1/2024.
  • Permanent address must be included in profile and must match Driver License/State ID; address will be validated during compliance.
  • Candidates from certain New York counties (Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Fulton, Greene, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Ulster, Warren, Washington) are not eligible for this assignment.

Additional Requirements

  • Work history and skills checklist (updated within the last year) must be provided.
  • One supervisory signed reference from within the past two years of employment is required.
  • Current licenses and certifications (Nursys, BLS, ACLS) must be uploaded with the profile; facility will not pend licenses or certifications.
  • Requested time off during the assignment must be noted and verified at profile upload; no time off requests will be approved after submission.

Orientation and Call Details

  • Non-billable orientation: 8 hours.
  • Holiday, call-back, and overtime multipliers apply.
  • Call frequency: 4 times per hour (as stated).

COVID-19

  • COVID vaccinations are encouraged but not required.

Notes

  • This position requires strong surgical nursing skills with emphasis on vascular and orthopedic cases.
  • The role is primarily circulating with scrub experience as a plus.
  • The facility operates 14 OR rooms with a high volume of diverse surgical procedures excluding cardiac and ophthalmology.
