Description

ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Mayfield Heights, Ohio
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Provide nursing care in a Cardiac Surgery ICU (CSICU) / Coronary Care Unit (CCU) setting.
  • Orientation required (32-40 hours), paid at 50% of base hourly rate.
  • Must pass ECG rhythm recognition and SafeMedicate competency exams during orientation.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Experience in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Coronary Care Unit (CCU) settings.
  • Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Knowledge and competency in NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required.
  • Pass/Fail Testing (Medication & ECG) required at orientation with minimum passing scores (SafeMedicate 90%, ECG 80%).
  • State RN license primary source verification within 30 days of start.
  • Nursys verification within 30 days of start.

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
  • Comprehensive background check including FCRA-compliant 7-year search, education verification, and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) required prior to start and updated annually.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract; facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
  • Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to safely perform job functions.
  • Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 or 1870+) within 12 months of start, updated annually.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required with official documentation:
    • Tdap (every 10 years, no declinations accepted)
    • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 12 months or chest X-ray if past positive.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if negative/equivocal.
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if negative/equivocal.
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination with agency-approved exemptions.
    • Annual flu vaccination/documentation required (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions must be approved).
  • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start.

Orientation & Training

  • Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start is mandatory.
  • Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; video content must be watched before testing.
  • Orientation includes competency testing and safety manual acknowledgment.

References & Employment History

  • Two professional references required from employment within the past year (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
  • Employment application must include at least 3 years of prior work history with 2 years in acute care and similar clinical area.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates with a break in service of 2 or more months must update background checks and immunizations accordingly.
  • Candidates can start with fingerprinting results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start.
  • Facility accommodates latex allergies; notification required to ensure latex-free gloves availability.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
