Job Opportunity: Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Sacramento, California

Job Description
- Role involves working as an Interventional Radiology (IR) Registered Nurse, partly in a recovery room with patients from deep organ biopsies and angiography cases.
- Shift: Day shift, 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (approx. 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM).
- Schedule includes call once per week and every 5th weekend, with rotating weekends.
- Operate complex stationary and mobile diagnostic equipment.
- Assist physicians during invasive diagnostic and guidance imaging procedures.
- Educate patients on procedures, medications, contrast media, and biological effects to reduce anxiety.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
- Minimum of 3 years of Interventional Radiology experience, including experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS and ACLS required.
- Other certifications may be position-dependent; verify with employer if applicable.
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exams and unit-specific competency exams may be required.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam may be required for some telemetry units.
Background & Screening Requirements
- 7-year background check including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening within 2 weeks of start.
- Annual updates required for EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and FACIS screenings.
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids per California law).
- Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps.
- Employment verification for up to 7 years required; gaps over 30 days must be explained.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including clearance for work.
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (specific mask types required).
- Immunizations required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years).
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 90 days of start, renewed annually.
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Proof of immunity or vaccination required; boosters may be needed.
- Hepatitis B: Series or signed declination; must complete series if started.
- Varicella: Proof of immunity or vaccination; boosters may be needed.
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30) or signed declination.
- Drug testing and respiratory safety clearance required prior to start.
Additional Requirements
- Must review and sign facility-specific documents including job description, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, and regulatory orientation prior to start.
- TB screening questionnaire required within 90 days of start and renewed annually.
- References: 2 professional references required within 3 years for clinical positions.
Work Environment & Responsibilities
- Work primarily 5x8 hour shifts from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM in IR setting.
- Provide patient care in recovery room and assist with invasive procedures.
- Educate and support patients to alleviate fear and anxiety related to procedures.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with a strong background in Interventional Radiology and recovery care, who are comfortable with call and weekend rotations and meet California licensure and certification requirements.
