Description
ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Canton, Ohio
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse for a travel/contract assignment. The role requires working every other holiday and passing facility-specific competency exams during orientation.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum of 1.5 years of recent ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
- Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to safely perform job functions
- Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually
- Immunizations/vaccinations required with official documentation:
- Tdap (every 10 years)
- Measles (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Mumps (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, with annual updates if applicable
- Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted)
- Seasonal flu vaccination documentation required annually (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions require approval)
- Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year
Background and Compliance
- Comprehensive background check required prior to start, including:
- FCRA-compliant 7-year search
- SSN trace, county/state/nationwide checks
- National sex offender registry
- Education verification
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months, updated annually; must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing
- Primary source verification of RN license within 30 days of start
- Nursys verification within 30 days of start
- Completion of facility onboarding modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone)
Orientation and Competency Testing
- Baseline competency exams during orientation:
- Medication administration (SafeMedicate) with 90% passing score
- ECG interpretation with 80% passing score
- Prep materials provided before first attempt
- Retake opportunities and remediation available if needed
- Must work at least every other holiday
References and Work History
- Two professional references required from employment within one year of start, from a manager, ANM, supervisor, charge nurse, or director (co-worker references not accepted)
- Employment application must include at least 3 years prior work history with 2 years in acute care ICU or similar area
Additional Notes
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during assignment
- Candidates must complete all required health documents, background checks, and onboarding modules before clearance to start
- Facility accommodates latex allergies with notification
- Candidates with name changes must have consistent legal names on all documents
This position is ideal for ICU RNs with solid recent experience, Ohio licensure, and the ability to meet comprehensive health, background, and competency requirements.
