Registered Nurse (IR RN) - Bronx, NY
Job Details
- Specialty: Interventional Radiology (IR) Registered Nurse
- Location: Bronx, New York
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights
- Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 34 hours per week (7p start)
- Unit: IR (1 IR room), with possible work in Cath Lab for IR-specific cases
- Call Requirements: No call required on weeknights, weekends, or holidays (permanent staff cover call)
- Floating: No floating outside IR and Cath Lab IR cases
Job Description
- Manage patient care in all phases of IR procedures: pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure
- Perform IV insertions and CT preparations for scheduled patients
- Communicate with physicians and mid-level providers regarding patient care plans and disposition changes
- Use Allscripts EMR for documentation; some paper charting depending on procedure
- Work alongside a CST IR tech and physicians; IR Chair and another MD are in-house during the day, on-call after 5 pm
- Procedures include vascular interventions, biopsies, embolizations, thrombectomies, drains, pain management injections, and line management (Permcaths, PICCs, ports, tunneled catheters)
- Average daily caseload: 5-8 IR procedures, plus CT prep and IV starts for about 50 patients per day
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) — PALS certification is mandatory, but pediatric experience is not required
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Interventional Radiology nursing
- Proficiency in IV starts required
- Critical care experience is a plus but not mandatory
- Open to first-time travel nurses (prior travel experience not required)
Work Environment & Scheduling
- 7 RNs staffed in the IR department
- 12-hour night shifts with one-hour lunch and two 15-minute breaks
- Flexible scheduling requested; travelers should be prepared to fill gaps in permanent staff scheduling
- Scrub color: Royal Blue in IR; surgical or disposable scrubs allowed in Cath Lab
- Unit-specific orientation includes 3 shifts with manager evaluation for additional support
This position is ideal for an IR RN with at least one year of specialty experience, current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications, and the ability to work flexible night shifts in a busy interventional radiology setting.
