Job Opportunity: Step Down Registered Nurse

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Shift Details

  • Work on a Stepdown unit with potential to float to similar patient care units including Emergency Department.
  • Shifts are 3x12 hours, rotating between day (7:00 am - 7:30 pm) and night (7:00 pm - 7:30 am).
  • Shift rotation may be adjusted based on hospital operational needs.
  • Must work at least every other holiday.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year.
  • Current certifications required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.

Certifications & Testing

  • Baseline competency exams on medication administration and ECG interpretation are required at orientation (90% passing for medication, 80% for ECG).
  • Certifications must be current and renewed if expiring within 30 days of assignment start.
  • Preferred but not required: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to safely perform job functions.
  • Fit mask (N95) test within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required with no declinations accepted unless approved medical/religious exemptions are submitted and approved:
    • Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titers)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination with approval)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine (required annually by November 30th; no declinations accepted)
  • TB screening: 2-step PPD, QGold, or TSPOT within 12 months; chest X-ray and questionnaire if history of positive TB.
  • Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant screens not accepted).
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year.

Background & Compliance

  • Background check required prior to start, including a 7-year FCRA-compliant search and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing; facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • Education verification required for all candidates.
  • NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start.

Documentation & Onboarding

  • Must complete all required online training modules prior to start; modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome.
  • Photo for badge required (headshot, shoulders up, white background).
  • Resume with 3 years prior work history including at least 2 years in acute care in a similar area required.
  • Two professional references from within the last year required (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared to complete competency exams and pass required assessments during orientation.
  • Modules and onboarding processes are time-sensitive and must be prioritized to avoid delays.
  • Candidates with gaps longer than 6 months since last assignment at this facility may need to repeat orientation modules.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required beyond the specialty experience.

This position is ideal for experienced Stepdown RNs licensed in Ohio or a Compact State, comfortable with rotating 12-hour shifts and meeting comprehensive health and compliance requirements.
