Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg / Neuroscience
Location
- Saint Louis, Missouri

Contract Length
- 13 to 26 weeks
Work Schedule
- Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
- 36 guaranteed hours per week (option for 48 hours at candidate’s request)
- Weekend requirement: Every other full weekend (Saturday and Sunday), unless otherwise approved
- Call: None
- Holidays: Expected to work at least one major winter holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s Day)
- Up to 5 days off per 13-week period can be automatically approved; additional time off requires approval and may need to be made up
Unit Information
- Department: Medical Surgical Unit specializing in Neuroscience
- Patient population: Neuro-surgical patients including stroke, seizures, MS, back/head/spinal neurological diagnoses, and neurosurgery procedures
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
- EMR system: EPIC
- Equipment: FIT test required on site
- Float: As needed within scope
- Dress code: Black scrubs required
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg experience within the last year
- Experience in an acute care inpatient setting
- Neurology experience
- BLS certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience in charge nurse roles
Job Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care using the nursing process in a neurosurgical unit
- Maintain professional accountability for assigned patients
- Evaluate effectiveness of care provided by other direct caregivers
- Coordinate patient care with other departments
- Maintain patient rights and confidentiality
Additional Notes
- Weekend and holiday work are standard expectations
- Occasional charge nurse duties required
- FIT testing will be conducted onsite
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized neuro-surgical environment with a focus on acute neurological conditions and neurosurgery patients. The role requires strong clinical skills in Med Surg and neuroscience nursing, with a commitment to night shift and weekend coverage.
