Registered Nurse (Rehab)

Location: Kankakee, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Hours: 12-hour shifts (5:00 AM - 5:30 PM), approximately 36 hours per week

Job Summary

• Work in an inpatient acute rehabilitation unit (not SNF or LTACH) with approximately 30 beds.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio varies by acuity, typically 1:6-8.
• Patient population includes post-op cardiovascular surgery, falls, knee and back surgeries, strokes, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, some post-acute COVID conditioning, and patients with PICC/Ports.
• No continuous telemetry monitoring on the unit.
• Charge nurse coverage during day and night shifts.
• Nurse aides/techs assist with ADLs, vitals, and showers.
• Respiratory therapy assists with CPAP/BiPAP settings if used at home.

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Minimum 1 year of inpatient acute rehab nursing experience.
• BLS certification required.
• Rehab certification is a plus.
• QIM (Quality Improvement Measures) experience preferred.
• Previous travel nursing experience highly preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required for submission.

Responsibilities & Work Environment

• No requirement to titrate drips; common titratable fluids include IV fluids, electrolytes, antibiotics, and blood.
• Expected to work weekends and holidays as needed.
• Standby call may be required during low census and pending admissions.
• Floating to MedSurg units as needed.
• Unit-specific orientation includes one 12-hour shift with a preceptor.
• Schedule built by team lead/manager with attempts to accommodate block scheduling and flexibility.
