Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU (Travel/Contract)
Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Nights (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks (possible extension)
Patient Ratio: 1:2 (acuity-based; may include step-down level care patients)
Job Description
- Provide care in a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) setting.
- Must have experience with direct fresh open-heart admissions from the OR.
- Skilled in cardiac surgery patient care including:
- Activated Clotting Time (ACT) monitoring.
- Pressure monitoring.
- Swan-Ganz catheter management.
- Impella device monitoring.
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT).
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in West Virginia
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with Activated Clotting Time (ACT) monitoring
- Experience with direct fresh open-heart admissions from the OR
- Experience with pressure monitoring
- Experience managing Swan-Ganz catheters
- Experience monitoring Impella devices
- Experience with Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Night shifts only: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each.
- Blocked schedules considered only if requesting weekends exclusively (Fri-Sun or Sat-Mon).
- Scrubs are not provided.
Documentation & Compliance Requirements
Candidates must submit a single PDF containing:
- Complete candidate profile including work history.
- Specialty-specific skills checklist (updated annually).
- Minimum 2 clinical or charge nurse references from the past 2 years.
- RN license verification (must be current within 2 days of submission).
- Copies of all required certifications (no pending certifications allowed).
Additional required documents and clearances include:
- Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during work hours).
- Proof of E-Verify or attestation.
- Background checks covering 7 years of residence/employment history, including criminal, sex offender, education verification, and federal exclusions (updated annually).
- Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands (initial and annual updates).
- Negative TB screening (2-step PPD within 1 year or equivalent testing).
- Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (within 2 years or documented vaccination/declination).
- Drug screening (10-panel within 30 days of start, updated annually).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season).
- COVID-19 vaccination or declination.
- Completion of facility-specific learning modules including Cerner EMR training prior to orientation.
- Completion of ReadySet (RS) health assessment surveys before start date.
- Color blindness testing and competency exams as applicable.
- Signed confidentiality and background drug screen consent forms.
- Badge photo per facility instructions prior to clearance.
Additional Notes
- Candidates working in the Cath Lab must provide transcript/diploma and complete a Point of Care Technician application.
- Stroke education CEUs (8 hours annually) are required for this role.
- All certifications and required documents must be on file before the start date; no exceptions for pending credentials.
- The facility uses Cerner EMR; candidates must complete Cerner training modules before orientation.
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific onboarding and compliance deadlines.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity CVICU environment with advanced cardiac care responsibilities on a travel contract basis.
