Description
ICU Registered Nurse (RN) - 2E SICU
Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- 16 beds plus 2 procedural beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- 1:2 standard ICU patients
- 1:1 for higher acuity patients (e.g., CRRT, immediate post-op heart patients, MTP, OPO)
- 1:3 for med-surg/floor status patients
- Patient types include cardiovascular surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, AAA), trauma (level 2 trauma center), NSTEMI/STEMI, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, ENT surgery, and other surgical ICU patients
- Intensivist and Respiratory Therapist available 24/7
- Respiratory equipment includes vents, BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, etc.
- No telemetry/monitor techs; RNs monitor and document their own patients’ telemetry using GE monitors
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license appropriate for Wisconsin
- ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), and NIHSS certifications required
- Preferred certification: TNCC
- Must have experience caring for high acuity ICU patients and the specified patient populations
- Experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, and ECMO is desirable but not required
- Ability to titrate drips including epinephrine, norepinephrine, propofol, precedex, vasopressin, dobutamine, heparin, insulin, dopamine, neosynephrine, and milrinone
- Must be able to work night shifts (1900-0730)
- Must be willing to work every other weekend and holiday (or more if available)
- Ability to float to MICU or serve as patient observer within the hospital if not needed in SICU
Work Schedule & Environment
- 12-hour night shifts (1900-0730)
- Self-scheduling for staff; agency nurses scheduled to meet unit needs
- Charge nurse present every shift; may take patient assignments based on census
- One nurse aide available during day shifts; typically no nurse aide at night
- Clean and professional dress code; no specific scrub color required
- Orientation includes one day of system onboarding/CBT and two unit orientation shifts with skills checklist completion
Additional Information
- Must clock in and out at the facility
- Prior employment with the facility requires a minimum 6-month gap before reapplying
- Call or standby only during scheduled shifts if census is low (per agency allowed hours)

- Specialty experience: ICU nursing with high acuity patient care (minimum experience not explicitly stated; must have relevant ICU experience)
- Prior travel experience: Not specified as required
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with complex cardiovascular and surgical ICU patients, who are able to titrate multiple drips and work independently monitoring telemetry.
