Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse

Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Position Details

  • Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Rotation: Yes
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to like units/sister facilities as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience within the last year
  • One completed travel assignment
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience with Epic

Scheduling & Hours

  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Block Scheduling: May be requested but not guaranteed
  • Local Radius: 60 miles (local travelers not accepted)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
    • Includes SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification: Not required for this facility
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Performance Evaluation: Must be dated within 12 months of start
  • Work History Verification: Not required for this facility

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Initial and annual updates required, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations & Titers:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination form
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
  • TB Testing:
    • 2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold within 90 days of contract start (T-spot not accepted)
    • If positive, proof of chest X-ray required
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
  • Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for all patient-facing staff via RespSafety questionnaire

Orientation & Facility Specifics

  • Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 4 hours for this location
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo required (frontal view, shoulders up, solid light background)
  • Acknowledgments & Agreements: Candidates must review and sign facility-specific documents including assignment acknowledgment, code of conduct, confidentiality agreements, HR policy manual, systems user agreement, and HIPAA confidentiality agreement prior to start

  • Radiation Badge: Required only for certain departments (OR, Cath Lab, EP Lab, Radiology); not required for this CVICU role
  • IV Certification: Not specified as required for this role
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable
  • Floating: Nurses are expected to float within their scope to meet facility needs

This position is ideal for experienced CVICU RNs with cardiac and neuro experience who have prior travel contract experience and hold a valid South Carolina or Compact RN license. Night shift availability and flexibility to float are essential.
