Job Opportunity: Operating Room RN - Travel Assignment

Schedule & Work Hours

• Weekday shifts: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 9:30 PM
• Requirement: Three 12-hour shifts per week (36 hours total)
• Call shifts: Maximum of 10 call shifts per contract (typically fewer)

  • Weeknight call coverage: 7:00 PM – 6:30 AM
  • Weekend call: 24-hour shifts on Saturday or Sunday
• May be required to float to 2nd Floor Outpatient Operating Rooms

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum of 1 year of recent Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
• Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
• Strong Orthopedics experience (Joints, Trauma, Sports Medicine)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Certifications & Licenses

• Current RN license required (per Ohio state regulations)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

Preferred Experience

• Experience with Da Vinci robotic surgery

Background & Compliance Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes apply)
• Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
• Monthly monitoring through workforce screening programs (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
• Immunizations and health documentation required:

  • Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
• COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Competency & Testing Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
• Unit-specific competency exams required
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)

References & Documentation

• Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager, director, or formal leadership role
• Employment application and skills checklist required

Additional Facility Policies

• Annual acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policies
• Annual completion of fraud, waste, and abuse training and compliance policies
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually

Summary

This travel RN position in Surgical Services requires a highly skilled Operating Room nurse with strong trauma and orthopedic experience, Epic system proficiency, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. The role includes weekday 12-hour shifts with call responsibilities and possible float assignments. Comprehensive background checks, health screenings, certifications, and competency exams are mandatory for compliance. Prior travel experience is preferred but not required.
