Description
Operating Room Registered Nurse – Travel/Contract
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Work in an 18-bed Level 1 Trauma Operating Room.
- Surgical specialties include General, Robotic, Laparoscopic, Trauma, Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Spine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Plastics, Burns, Urology, GYN, and Transplant surgeries.
- Variable shifts: days/evenings, 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts.
- Call required Monday-Friday 9:00 PM – 6:30 AM; weekend and holiday coverage may be required.
- Primary shift example: Day shift, 4x10 hours (6:30 AM – 5:00 PM).
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care during surgical procedures.
- Circulate primarily in Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Spine, and General Surgery cases.
- Collaborate closely with the surgical team.
- Maintain patient records using EPIC electronic health record system.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience working in Level 1 trauma centers.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in ENT, Genitourinary (GU), Plastics, and Burns surgical cases.
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit assignment.
- Unit-specific competency exams required, including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (must be current within 1 year and renewed annually).
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start.
Background & Screening Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide search, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is required.
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start, with specific Ohio fingerprinting code (3701.881).
- Education verification confirming graduation from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene).
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption requires documentation)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 – 3/31)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership.
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- Annual acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, compliance, and fraud/waste/abuse policies.
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually.
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
