Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery (Night Shift)

Location: Carmel, Indiana
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (Nights)
Schedule: Full-time nights; weekends and holidays as needed per unit requirements


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care in Labor and Delivery unit during night shifts.
  • Work includes weekends and holidays based on unit needs.

Required Qualifications

Licensure and Education

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience.
  • Labor and Delivery experience within the last year.

Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Advanced certification.

Onboarding and Compliance Requirements

Pre-Start Documentation and Testing

  • Ascension Resume/Profile and at least two professional references.
  • Signed assignment agreement and confirmation of assignment.
  • Criminal background check including Social Security Trace, OIG Search, National Sex Offender Registry, and EPLS within 90 days of start.
  • Employment and education verifications covering the past seven years.
  • Driver’s license or state ID (must be current and match address on file).
  • Health statement or physical exam completed prior to first assignment and updated annually.
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • MMR: Proof of two vaccines or positive titer; no declinations accepted.
    • Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history; no declinations accepted.
    • Tdap: Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted.
    • Hepatitis B: Vaccination series completion or signed declination.
    • Influenza vaccine: Optional; if declined during flu season, mask required.
    • Tuberculosis screening: 2-step PPD or IGRA within required timeframes; positive results require chest X-ray and annual questionnaire.
  • Fit test for respiratory protection (preferred before start, can be done onsite).
  • 12-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start and annually thereafter.

Competency Exams and Training

  • Ascension Pharmacology Exam (minimum 80% score, max 2 attempts).
  • Ascension Specialty Exam in Labor and Delivery (minimum 80% or national benchmark, max 2 attempts).
  • Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA, etc.) updated every 3 years.
  • Ascension Skills Checklist for specialty, updated annually.
  • Ascension Color Vision test, updated every 3 years.
  • Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation (6-hour pre-hire training).
  • Onsite Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding.
  • Badge photo (forward-facing headshot with white or blue background, no filters).

Additional Information

  • Optional unit-specific checklist may be required by unit leader within one week of start.
  • All required documents and verifications must be uploaded and completed as specified.
  • Contract length is approximately 13 weeks.

This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs seeking a night shift assignment with comprehensive onboarding and credentialing requirements.
