Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical/Surgical Telemetry

Location: West Burlington, Iowa
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Estimated Hours: 36 hours per week, with possible overtime


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Deliver high-quality care to geriatric, medical/surgical, adult, and telemetry patient populations.
  • Positions available on Medical Surgical and Telemetry units.
  • Must self-study telemetry strips upon acceptance; a basic dysrhythmia test will be administered during the first week and must be passed to work on the telemetry/med-surg unit.
  • May be required to float occasionally to nearby campuses.
  • May be placed on call during low census periods; if called in, must respond and arrive onsite within one hour.
  • Use of EPIC electronic medical record system required, with experience on a similar unit within the last 12 months.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Iowa.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum of 2 years of Medical/Surgical Telemetry nursing experience.
  • Medical/Surgical Telemetry experience within the last year.
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • ACLS certification.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record system.

Required Onboarding Credentials and Compliance

  • Professional license verification (primary source verification within 30 days of start).
  • Background check including SS trace and county search for the last 7 years.
  • Drug screen (9-panel, within 30 days of start).
  • Influenza vaccine or facility declination (due annually by December 1).
  • COVID-19 vaccine or declination accepted.
  • MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and Tdap immunizations or declinations accepted.
  • TB test proof of negative within the past year or appropriate documentation if history of positive.
  • Fit test for approved respirators completed prior to start.
  • Health statement from a physician within the last 12 months.
  • Driver’s license or state ID current and valid during assignment.
  • Completion of facility-specific skills checklist within 12 months.
  • Completion of education verification and professional references (2 required, including 1 supervisor).
  • Completion of various facility-required attestations and acknowledgments (e.g., Epic registration, I-9 attestation, adult and child abuse training).

Additional Information

  • The traveler will not be part of a regular call rotation but must be available for occasional call-ins.
  • Must maintain high professional standards and effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Flexibility to float to other nearby campuses as needed.

This position is ideal for an experienced RN with recent telemetry/medical-surgical experience, ACLS certification, and EPIC EMR proficiency seeking a night shift long-term travel assignment in Iowa.
