Description
Registered Nurse - Med Surg (Travel)
Location: Marquette, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Facility & Unit Overview
- 225-bed specialty care hospital with multiple specialty centers including Heart & Vascular, Cancer, Brain & Spine, Rehab, Behavioral Health, Digestive Health, Bariatric Medicine & Weight Management, Women's Health, and Pediatrics
- Observation Unit with 10 beds
- Adult patient population only (18 years and older)
- Trauma Level 2 facility
- Electronic Health Record system: Cerner
- Equipment includes cardiac monitors
- Patient ratios approximately 1:5, no defined ratios
- Orientation offered bi-weekly
Position Details
- Role: Registered Nurse (RN)
- Specialty: Medical-Surgical with Observation patient types
- Number of Openings: 10
- Shift: 5 days on / 5 nights on, 12-hour shifts
- Weekly Hours: 36 hours (0.9 FTE), 72 hours per pay period guaranteed
- Weekend and holiday work required
- No mandated call requirements
- Float required to Medical, Cardiac, Neuro-Ortho units
- No guarantee on block scheduling
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
- Minimum 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Preferred Experience & Skills
- Telemetry experience preferred
- Must have at least 1 year of medical-surgical experience
- Experience with observation status patient care including diagnoses such as chest pain, asthma exacerbation, TIA, abdominal pain, urinary issues, blood sugar issues, DVT/PE, cellulitis, post-procedural monitoring, and minor trauma
Work Environment & Expectations
- Dress code: Galaxy blue scrubs
- Attendance policy:
- Second absence results in a formal warning
- Third absence may result in contract termination unless otherwise agreed with unit leadership
- All absences must be made up to maintain contracted hours
- No early termination fees will be covered if contract ends due to attendance or professional conduct issues

- Located in the central region of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, largest community in the area, home to Northern Michigan University
- No prior travel experience explicitly required for this position
