Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - Step Down Unit

Location: Springfield, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel
Assignment Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 (must be specified on submission)
Weekend Hours: As required by facility
Call Requirements: None


Unit & Patient Care Information

  • Unit: Cardiac Surgery Intermediate (Step Down/Progressive Care Unit)
  • Number of Beds: 26
  • Patient Ratios: 3:1 or 4:1
  • Patient Types: Cardiac/thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, alcohol withdrawal, respiratory distress, insulin drips
  • Equipment Used: Philips monitors, chest tubes, arterial lines, wound vacs, pacer boxes, pacing wires, drains, EKOS, Nicom, BiPAP, Airvo
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): EPIC
  • Float Requirements: Rotational float to critical care cluster or medical/surgical units

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Missouri
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record system

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Utilize the nursing process for patients post-trauma, surgical interventions, and medical comorbidities
  • Coordinate patient care with ancillary departments to optimize outcomes and comfort
  • Maintain professional accountability and evaluate care effectiveness of other caregivers
  • Uphold patient rights and confidentiality
  • Perform duties consistent with nursing practice standards, Missouri Nurse Practice Act, and organizational mission and values

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Stand and walk most of the shift
  • Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance
  • Ability to push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs; pinch up to 15 lbs
  • Occasional kneeling, crouching, and crawling
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids considered high risk
  • May require flexible scheduling based on patient care needs

  • Dress Code: Black scrubs or facility-logo attire only; other attire not acceptable
  • Orientation: Night shift orientation occurs on day shift and requires full-week availability
  • Flu Vaccination: Required November 1 through April 1; no declinations accepted
