Description

Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Location

  • Salem, Massachusetts

Employment Type

  • Long-Term Assignment (approximately 13 weeks)

Work Schedule

  • Night shifts, 36 hours per week
  • Every Other Weekend (EOW) required
  • Shift hours: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
  • Rotating shifts may be required occasionally for day shifts (7 AM–7 PM, 11 AM–11 PM, 7 PM–7 AM), but night position does not rotate regularly

Unit Description

  • 65-bed Emergency Department
  • Pod-based layout with separate pediatric pod and separate Acute Mental Health area
  • Patient census approximately 230 visits per day
  • Clinician to patient ratio: 1:4
  • Patient population: All ages

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Nursing experience

Required Skills

  • General Emergency Department nursing skills including:
    • Patient assessment and documentation
    • IV therapy and phlebotomy
    • EKG and cardiac monitoring
    • Point of care testing
    • Splinting
    • Critical thinking
    • Patient education

Certifications Required

  • AHA Certified Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Preferred Certifications

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

Floating and Rotation

  • Floating to other units may be required
  • Low frequency of rotating shifts for day coverage when requested

Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System

  • EPIC – ASAP

Required Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Massachusetts
  • Primary source verification required within 30 days of start date
  • Massachusetts conditional licenses are not accepted

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • N95 Fit Test within 365 days prior to start date, updated annually (no exemptions allowed)
  • Respirator Medical Clearance attestation required if fit test is needed
  • Tuberculosis (TB) test documentation within 3 months of start date, updated if break >6 months
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccination or immunity documentation
  • Physician health statement within 365 days of start date, updated if break >6 months
  • Criminal background check within 45 days prior to start date, updated if break >6 months
  • Massachusetts CORI background check within 30 days prior to start date, updated if break >6 months
  • National sex offender registry check within 30 days prior to start date, updated annually
  • Exclusion checks (OIG, GSA, MassHealth, NH Medicaid) within 30 days prior to start date and annually
  • Medication and Advanced Dysrhythmia exams with minimum 80% passing score within 365 days

  • Resume including past 7 years of work experience with city and state
  • Two professional references within 4 years (minimum one supervisor-level)
  • Completed skills checklist within 1 year
  • Candidate submission coversheet (current version)
  • License/certification verification and other credential attestations as required

This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Room RNs seeking a night shift role in a busy, diverse emergency department setting with opportunities for professional growth and skill utilization.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
