Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (06:45 - 19:15)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Unit: Intermediate Care (IMC) / Stepdown / Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Patient Ratios/Daily Caseload: Not specified
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
  • Block Scheduling: Possible, discuss with manager
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required in specialty areas; first-time travelers not accepted
  • Required Work Setting Experience: Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown
  • Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response:
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Telemetry monitoring on unit
    • Use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Cardiovascular Care:
    • Post cardiac angiogram, MI, cardiac catheterization, and surgery care
    • Sheath removal and TR Band management
  • Gastrointestinal Care: Feeding tube care and management
  • Renal Care: Pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure care
  • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy:
    • Accessing ports, arterial line management, blood product administration
    • Central line, PICC line, peripheral line care/management
    • Phlebotomy and IV starts
  • Medication Management:
    • Heparin protocols
    • Management and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
    • PCA and procedural sedation administration
  • Neurological/Psychiatric Cases: Craniotomy, CVA, neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury
  • Orthopedics: Ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, total joint replacements
  • Plastic Surgery: Skin grafts, surgical drains
  • Respiratory Care:
    • Ventilator care, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
    • External CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
    • ABG interpretation, tracheostomy management, non-invasive airway management
  • Professional Skills: Isolation precautions, wound care including wound vac
  • Preferred Experience: Cerner electronic health record, teaching hospital, Level I trauma center experience

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Active Illinois RN license required (no pending licenses accepted)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • NIH Stroke Scale certification required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred but not mandatory

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender, and federal exclusions
  • Primary source verification of certifications and state license
  • Competency exam required for clinical candidates
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming good physical and mental health, ability to perform job functions without restrictions
  • Fit mask test required prior to start (specific mask types accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B vaccine series or positive titer
    • Varicella vaccine or positive titer
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
  • References: Two professional references required
  • Badge photo required before start
  • Completion of orientation safety manual and computer-based learning modules before first day

Summary
