Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
Location: Davis, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Description
- Work across Labor and Delivery, Circulating Cesarean Sections, Recoveries, and Postpartum units.
- Must be willing to work in all areas mentioned.
- Additional desired experience with Level 1 nursery and lactation support.
- Unit handles approximately 1450 births per year with a large midwifery practice.
- Supports physiologic birth with low cesarean section and epidural rates.
- Care model includes couplet care and stabilization/transfer for Level 1 nursery.
- Features water labor and water births, birth slings, intermittent monitoring, epidurals, and circulating in C-sections.
- Block scheduling available only if staffing allows.
Shift Details
- Day shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Total hours per week: 36
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience in Postpartum care
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check including Social Security trace with all aliases, county searches, sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening.
- Annual updates required for EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and FACIS screenings.
- Education verification required unless highest education is high school; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to California law).
- Full 7 years of work history required on application with no gaps; employment verification up to 7 years required.
- Two professional references required within 3 years for clinical positions.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, cleared for work.
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (specific mask types required).
- Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years or lifetime TDAP with booster within 10 years.
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT within 90 days) or 2-step PPD with annual renewal.
- Immunity or vaccination documentation required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (series or signed declination)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Apr 30) or signed declination with mask requirement in patient care areas.
- Color vision exam required if applicable (in-person only).
- Respiratory safety clearance required prior to start and annually (not required for some non-clinical roles).
Certifications and Competencies
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on position.
- Other certifications such as Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), and NIH Stroke Certification may be required based on position specifics.
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams required as applicable.
- EKG competency exam may be required for some units.
Facility Specific Requirements
- Candidate must review and sign facility-specific documents including job description, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, overpayment refund policy, and regulatory orientation prior to start.
- TB screening questionnaire must be completed and signed by candidate and healthcare provider within 90 days of start and renewed annually.
- Religious exemption forms required for approved exemptions related to facial hair (PAPR) and certain vaccines (Tdap, MMR, Varicella).
- Pending background check attestation may not be accepted; conditional clearances handled case-by-case.
