Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract in Columbus, Ohio


Job Details

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
  • Hours per Week: 36 hours
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1 nurse to 3 patients
  • Schedule: Weekends and rotating holidays required
  • Floating: Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity, including different units as needed

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of MedSurg nursing experience
  • IV start skills required
  • Experience with Telemetry (Tele) patients
  • EPIC electronic health record experience required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Prior travel nursing experience is preferred (not mandatory)

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted; letter of completion not accepted)
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NIH Stroke Certification) — verify per unit specifics

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exams required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%, max 3 attempts)

Background & Credentialing Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including:
    • Social Security trace
    • Counties lived/worked
    • Nationwide search
    • Sex offender registry
    • Motor Vehicle Record (if driving is part of job)
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using specific code (3701.881)
  • Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • High school diploma or GED verification (if applicable)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
  • TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test renewal
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola) – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
    • Mumps – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
    • Rubella – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption requires documentation)
    • Hepatitis B – titer or 3-vaccine series (declination accepted)
    • Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) – adult dose required (no exemptions if working with infants or pregnant patients)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending results)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); decliners must wear a mask
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Facility Requirements

  • Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policies
  • Annual completion of orientation safety manual acknowledgment
  • Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually for new contracts
  • Fit mask testing required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 (3M 1860/1870+ or Halyard Duckbill masks accepted)
  • Parking options available with varying costs and shuttle services (details provided onsite)

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 3 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
