    Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)

    Location: La Jolla, California
    Employment Type: Travel/Contract
    Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
    Contract Length: 13 weeks


    Job Description

    • Position is within a Perinatal Float Pool requiring cross-training and rotation among Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and LDRP units.
    • Must have 2 years combined experience in Labor & Delivery and Postpartum with demonstrated competency in both areas (hard requirement).
    • Scheduling requires working 7 shifts every 2 weeks, including one additional overtime shift per 2 weeks as needed (minimum 2 weeks’ notice for schedule changes).

    Required Qualifications

    • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
    • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
    • Postpartum nursing experience.
    • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
    • Certifications:
      • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association.
      • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
      • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program).
      • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring).

    Background and Screening Requirements

    • Criminal background check within 6 months of start, including SSN trace with all aliases, county, sexual offender, national criminal databases, and DMV check if driving is required.
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and must be rerun monthly.
    • California Medi-Cal Search required within 30 days of start and rerun monthly.
    • Drug screening (9-panel) within 30 days of start; must be redone if break in service exceeds 30 days.
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start; must be updated if break in service exceeds 30 days.
    • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) required and must be updated annually. Float Pool RNs must have fit test completed prior to start.
    • Immunizations and titers required:
      • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or titer + declination if vaccine refused).
      • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start.
      • Annual TB questionnaire.
      • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella – positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if titers negative/equivocal.
      • Hepatitis B – proof of vaccination and positive titer preferred; declination accepted with conditions.
      • Seasonal Flu vaccine strongly preferred during flu season (Nov 1 – Mar 31); declination requires forms.
      • COVID vaccine (current bivalent version) or signed declination required as of 3/13/2025.

    References

    • Two professional references required from the past 2 years in the current specialty.
    • At least one reference should be from a manager, supervisor, or director; the second preferably from a Charge RN who directly supervised the candidate.
    • No pending references allowed at start.

    Additional Information

    • Orientation and facility-specific modules will be assigned prior to start and must be completed as instructed.
    • Must comply with all facility-specific policies and training requirements.
    • Must be able to work additional overtime shifts as needed.

    This position is ideal for experienced Labor & Delivery nurses with strong clinical skills in perinatal care, flexibility to float across units, and readiness to work night shifts on a travel contract basis.
