Description

ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract) - Columbus, Ohio

Position Overview

  • Role: Critical Care Float Pool Registered Nurse
  • Shift: Weekend nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Total Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Float to various ICUs based on staffing and patient acuity, including:
    • Neuro ICU
    • Surgical ICUs
    • Medical ICUs (MICU x2)
    • Cardiology/Diagnostics
    • CVICU
    • SICU / MICU / NCCU
  • Float Policy: Must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Critical Care Float experience, including within the last year
  • ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience
  • Current certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system

Background and Credentialing Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
  • Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • License verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification for RN license
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending
  • 2 professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership role)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required

Competency and Testing Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
  • NIH Stroke certification required within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years (3.0 CE hours minimum)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) or chest x-ray if positive, within 1 year of start
  • TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test renewal
  • Adult Tdap vaccination (not Td or DTaP) required; exemptions not allowed for those working with infants or pregnant patients
  • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, and Rubella; boosters required if low titer and no proof of vaccination
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required unless medically exempted with documentation
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series; signed declination acceptable
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); decliners must wear a mask
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
  • Annual fit mask (N95) testing required for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting with contracts on or after 7/13/2026

Additional Requirements and Policies

  • Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policy
  • Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgment
  • Annual fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required
  • Annual ethics and compliance policy review and acknowledgment (for new contracts signed 11/7/24 and beyond)
  • Confidential fraud, waste, and abuse reporting mechanism form required prior to start
  • Parking permits available for agency staff (costs and options subject to change)

This position offers a challenging and dynamic environment for experienced ICU nurses comfortable with floating across multiple critical care units during weekend night shifts.
