Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Crescent City, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (9:30 AM – 10:00 PM)
- Hours per Week: 36 hours
- Experience Required: Minimum 5 years of RN experience as per manager
- Schedule: Every other weekend required
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC only
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA or ARC only
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – valid for 4 years
- State RN License – primary source verification required within 30 days of start
- NURSYS Verification for RN license within 30 days of start
- Additional certifications may be required based on position (e.g., CCRN, NRP, EFM) – verify as applicable
Required Background and Screening
- 7-year background check including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening within 2 weeks of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC Sanctions List, Medi-Cal Suspended and Ineligible Provider List checks as applicable
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids per CA law)
- TB screening: Negative QGold or TSPOT within 90 days of start or 2-step PPD testing with annual renewal
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including clearance for work and any work restrictions documented
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually (mask types specified)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR) – titers or vaccination series with boosters as needed
- Hepatitis B series or signed declination
- Varicella – titers or vaccination series with boosters as needed
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Apr 30)
- Color blindness exam if applicable (in-person exam by licensed provider)
- Respiratory safety clearance required prior to start, renewed annually
Required Documentation and Compliance
- Full 7 years of work history documented with no gaps, including city and state of employment
- Unit-specific skills checklist required, renewed annually
- Two professional references within 3 years (clinical/allied/per diem acute care)
- Completion and signing of facility-specific documents prior to start, including:
- Job description acknowledgment
- Standards of business conduct
- Vendor training and code of conduct (for contract years 2024 and beyond)
- Conditional offer of employment attestation
- TB questionnaire signed by candidate and healthcare provider
- Religious accommodation forms if applicable (for facial hair or vaccine exemptions)
- EKG competency testing may be required onsite after start for ICU and telemetry RNs at certain locations
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Minimum 5 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience
- Emergency Department experience within the last year
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
- Current TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
- Candidates must be able to work every other weekend
