Description
Registered Nurse – ER Holding
Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Weekend rotation required, no on-call
Job Summary
- Primarily assigned to Emergency Department (ED) Holding.
- Must be willing to float to Medical-Surgical (MS) and Telemetry (Tele) units when not utilized in ED Holding.
- Responsibilities include patient assessment, clinical procedures (IV insertion, Foley catheterization, dressing changes), patient and family education, tele monitoring, ventilator care, and safe medication administration.
- Recognize changes in patient condition and act as patient advocate.
- Work independently and collaboratively within the healthcare team.
- Maintain professional appearance and complete tasks timely.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience in an Acute Care setting.
- Willingness to float to Medical-Surgical (MS) and Telemetry units as needed.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 6 months of start, including Social Security trace with all aliases, county searches, sex offender registry, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening.
- Annual updates required for EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and FACIS screenings.
- Education verification required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids per California law).
- Full 7 years of work history required on application with no gaps; employment verification for up to 7 years.
- Two professional references required within 3 years for clinical positions.
Certifications and Competencies
- May be required to complete medication/pharmacology competency exams.
- ICU and MS/Telemetry RNs at this facility must take an onsite EKG exam after start.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM), Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), and NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on assignment.
- IV certification may be required.
- State license verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, cleared for work.
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (specific mask types required).
- Tuberculosis (TB) screening questionnaire within 90 days of start, renewed annually.
- Negative TB test (QGold, TSPOT, or PPD) within 90 days of start; annual renewal required.
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (series or declination)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Apr 30) or signed declination.
- Drug testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start.
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Must review and sign facility policies including dress code, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, overpayment refund policy, and general regulatory orientation prior to start.
- Completion of facility-specific questionnaires such as Epic Questionnaire (for RNs starting 11/3/2025 and onward).
- Religious exemption forms required for facial hair (PAPR) and certain vaccine exemptions; approvals handled on a case-by-case basis.

- No on-call requirement.
- Weekend rotation is mandatory.
