Registered Nurse – Oncology (Med Surg/Telemetry)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Position Overview
Seeking an experienced Oncology Nurse to provide comprehensive care for adult and geriatric patients with cancers such as endometrial, bladder, renal, ovarian, and cervical. The unit focuses on chemotherapy, clinical trials, brachytherapy, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), infection prevention, and patient falls management.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver direct patient care to oncology patients, addressing physical and emotional needs.
- Administer chemotherapy and monitor for adverse reactions.
- Assist with clinical trials, including data collection and documentation.
- Perform specialized procedures like brachytherapy and neobladder care.
- Implement infection prevention protocols and maintain patient safety.
- Monitor telemetry readings, interpret dysrhythmias, and respond to changes.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary and rapid response teams.
- Manage feeding tubes, IV therapy, blood product administration, and central lines.
- Use EPIC electronic charting for accurate documentation.
Work Schedule
- 12-hour shifts, rotating days and nights (day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM; night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM).
- Typically 36 hours per week (3 shifts).
- Staffing ratios generally 1:4, may adjust to 1:5 based on unit needs.
- Weekends vary based on unit requirements.
- Orientation: Week 1 is Monday-Friday day shifts; Week 2 includes 36 hours of on-unit preceptor orientation.
- Self-scheduling accommodated but subject to unit staffing priorities.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience, with oncology experience within the last year.
- Experience in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Experience with Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM).
Required Certifications & Exams
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – must be current.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam – required within 1 year of start and updated annually.
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam – required prior to start.
- Unit-specific competency exams as applicable.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881).
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leader.
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies.
- Confidential Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year; annual TB questionnaire required.
- Immunizations or titers required:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titers).
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation).
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable).
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12; no exemptions if working with infants or pregnant patients).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 – 3/31).
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending results allowed).
- Fit mask test annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 (specific mask types required).
