Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Castro Valley, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

• Provide professional nursing care to surgical patients in the Operating Room (OR).
• Responsibilities include planning, managing, and coordinating nursing care, scrubbing or circulating surgical cases, and supervising ancillary nursing personnel.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team and maintain AORN standards of nursing practice.
• Work involves handling bodily fluids, emergency/crisis situations, and exposure to high-risk OSHA Category I environments.

Schedule

• Shift: Day shift, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM (5 days a week, 8 hours per day)
• On-call: As needed
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
• Minimum 3 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
• One year or more of total travel nursing experience
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Specialized experience in Orthopedics, Vascular Surgery, Trauma, and Neurology

Background and Compliance Requirements

• 7-year background check including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening.
• Annual updates required for EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and FACIS screenings.
• Education verification required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred but not mandatory.
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana due to CA law).
• Full 7 years of work history required on application with verification of employment.

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, cleared for work.
• Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (specific mask types required).
• TB screening: Negative QGold or TSPOT within 90 days or 2-step PPD testing with annual renewal.
• Immunizations or positive titers required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (series or signed declination)
  • Varicella
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
• Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30) or signed declination with mask-wearing in patient care areas.
• Drug testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start.

Additional Requirements

• Unit-specific skills checklist required, renewed annually.
• References: 2 professional references within 3 years for clinical positions.
• Must review and sign facility-specific documents including standards of business conduct, confidentiality agreements, abuse policy, and vendor training prior to start.
• Completion of respiratory safety clearance and other competency exams as applicable.
