Job Opportunity: RN Step Down

Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM


Job Description

  • Work every other week (EOW) and every other holiday (EOH) schedule.
  • Placement on a unit with the greatest need: Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Medical-Surgical (Med-Surg), or Telemetry (Tele) based on skills.
  • Must be able to float onsite within skill set or to other sites within 40 miles if needed.
  • Requires experience in PCU or Med-Surg Telemetry acute care settings.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Med-Surg Telemetry acute care experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license valid in Wisconsin.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (AHA).
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.
  • Must pass specialty competency exams and skills checklists relevant to the assignment.

Onboarding & Compliance Requirements

  • Submission of professional resume/profile and at least two professional references prior to assignment.
  • Current license verification and primary source verification within 30 days prior to start.
  • Criminal background check including Social Security Trace, OIG Search, National Sex Offender Registry, and other required screenings within 90 days prior to start.
  • Completion of specialty exam with a minimum passing score of 80%.
  • Completion of core competencies including HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA topics with minimum passing score of 80%.
  • Successful completion of EPIC test-out and training checklist with signed attestation.
  • Health and immunization requirements including:
    • MMR (two vaccines or positive titer; no declinations accepted)
    • Varicella (two vaccines, immunity evidence, or history verified by provider; no declinations accepted)
    • Tdap (valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination
    • Influenza vaccine recommended during flu season (exemptions accepted with mask requirement)
    • Tuberculosis screening: 2-step PPD or IGRA within required timeframes, chest X-ray if positive, and annual TB questionnaire
  • Fit test for respiratory protection (3M 1860 Regular, Small, or 1870+), updated annually.
  • Annual 12-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start and updated annually thereafter.
  • Statement of good health or completed physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually.
  • Driver’s license or state ID matching address on file, valid and unexpired.

Additional Notes

  • Must complete onboarding education attestations and modules prior to clearance.
  • Onsite nursing contract worker onboarding required.
  • Specialty and skills checklists must be completed and updated annually.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with acute care PCU or Med-Surg Telemetry backgrounds seeking a long-term travel assignment in Wisconsin with varied unit placement and opportunities to utilize EPIC.
