Registered Nurse (Med Tele)

Location: Iron Mountain, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Day: 12
Hours per Week: 48

Unit and Patient Population

• 24 inpatient beds, plus up to 10 observation/day surgery cases
• Common diagnoses: nursing home patients, cellulitis, UTI, COPD, genitourinary issues, pacemaker patients, sepsis, orthopedic surgeries (hips and knees), cholecystectomy, appendectomy, TURPS-CBI
• Small pediatric population (~3 per year), only assigned to travelers with prior pediatric experience or if no other options
• Team nursing model with LPNs (day shift nurse-to-patient ratio 5:1, night shift 6:1; LPNs work until 11 PM with 2:7 LPN-to-RN ratio)

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience in Medical/Surgical or Medical Telemetry nursing (acute care experience required)
• Preferred experience with TURPS-CBI procedures
• Preferred experience in Critical Access or Trauma Level 3 or 4 facilities
• Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• Must be comfortable with IV starts (no IV team onsite)
• Ability to float to like units and patient populations is mandatory

Orientation and Training

• Unit-specific orientation includes:

  • Day 1: 8 hours of computer education plus 4 hours shadowing
  • Day 2: 12-hour orientation shift
  • Day 3: Independent work

Work Environment and Support

• Charge nurse takes an assignment; travelers may serve as relief charge nurse
• Nurse aides available on unit
• Hospitalist or intensivist coverage until 6 PM daily; telemedicine used after hours
• Respiratory therapist available 24/7; equipment includes CPAP
• Telemetry monitoring done in ICU; nurses have basic arrhythmia monitoring responsibilities
• No requirement for RNs to titrate drips

Scheduling and Requirements

• 12-hour shifts (7 AM–7 PM and 7 PM–7 AM)
• Weekend rotation every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday coverage required (approximately 2 out of 3 holidays)
• Potential call or standby assignment opportunity
• Self-scheduling encouraged but blocking of shifts not guaranteed

• Professional solid color dress code, no specific color required
• Clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
• Previous employment with this facility requires a minimum 6-month gap before reapplying

This position is suited for experienced Med Tele RNs comfortable working in a resource-limited setting with a diverse patient population and flexible scheduling needs.
