Registered Nurse - PACU (Travel/Contract)
Location: Allentown, Pennsylvania
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- 13-week travel contract position in Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
- Shift: Day shift, 4 days a week, 10-hour shifts (10:00 AM - 8:30 PM)
- Weekend work may be required
- No on-call duties
- Shift may vary depending on department needs
- Local rate pay (rate details excluded)
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Pennsylvania
- Minimum 2 years of PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- ICU (Intensive Care Unit) background and experience
- Strong Emergency Department (ED) / Emergency Room (ER) experience
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required for RNs, with annual updates
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required within 12 months of start
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 12 months of start, with annual renewal
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (annual)
- Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing required for RNs
- National Certification/Verification as applicable by profession and state
Preferred Certifications (Based on Unit)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if working with pediatric patients
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) if working in ER or Pediatric ER
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) if applicable
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) if applicable
Background & Screening Requirements
- Comprehensive background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including:
- SSN Trace
- County, State, Nationwide Criminal Search
- Sex Offender Search
- PA PATCH (Pennsylvania State Police Search)
- DMV check if driving is essential
- Education Verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required upon hire
- Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Fingerprint Clearance required within 90 days of start (all pages must be submitted)
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse Search required within 90 days of start
- Pennsylvania Medicheck Search required within 30 days of start
- State-specific PATCH Search Results required within 90 days of start
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 2 months of start
- Fit test for respirator use (not required for 100% remote roles)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per guidelines (QGold or T-Spot within 90 days, or 2 PPDs with one within 90 days)
- Annual TB Questionnaire if applicable
- Immunity or vaccination documentation required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive antibody titer or completed vaccine series; declinations not accepted)
- Varicella
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved exemption required for clinical staff
- COVID-19 vaccination required or signed declination with facility-specific form
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (9-panel without THC also acceptable)
- Respiratory Safety Clearance required annually for respirator use starting 04/07/2025
Documentation & Compliance
- Minimum of 2 professional references from employment within 12 months of start
- Complete employment application including 7 years of work history with explanations for gaps over 90 days
- Education and license/certification verification required
- Photo for badge (new candidates starting 3/31/2025 and later): recent, forward-facing, color photo with solid background, no hats or filters
- Badge request form required for new candidates starting before 3/30/2025
- Affidavit for provisional employment must be completed prior to start
- COVID and Flu declination forms required if applicable
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete all required competency exams and certifications prior to or shortly after start
- Pass/fail exams allow multiple attempts with remediation; failure after allowed attempts may result in contract cancellation
- Fingerprinting may be completed out-of-state with a non-reimbursed fee
- Drug screen dilute results require an observed drug screen within 24 hours if allowed by state law
- Background and health document expiration dates must be adhered to for continued clearance
This position is ideal for RNs with ICU or ER experience looking to gain or expand PACU experience on a travel contract basis in Pennsylvania.
