Description
Registered Nurse – MS Telemetry (Night Shift)
Location: Orangeburg, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
- Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (non-negotiable)
- On-call: No
- Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
- Unit: New telemetry unit, currently 10 beds open, staffed with 2 RNs and 1 tech per shift
- Charting System: Epic
- Parking: Free
- Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital with 286 staffed beds
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, including telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation, with experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS)
Job Requirements & Competencies
- Ability to work night shifts with a 3x12 schedule
- Must be able to float within the unit’s scope as needed
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
- Color blindness testing required prior to start
- Competency exams as applicable to the unit
- Physical ability to meet job demands (annual physical exam required)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Annual physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start or chest X-ray if prior positive
- Annual TB questionnaire completion
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if needed
- Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccination series, or declination form
- Tdap: Within 10 years or declination form
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Respirator medical clearance annually (RespSafety questionnaire)
Background & Verification
- Annual background check including 7 years of residence/work history
- Employment verification for last 3 clinical employers
- Education verification required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder
- NURSYS license verification required
- OFAC Sanctions List and state-specific exclusion checks required
Orientation & Facility Specifics
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (approx. 4-6 hours) prior to start
- First Day Instructions (FDI) provided after clearance; must be followed strictly
- Passport-style badge photo required before start (frontal view, solid light background, business attire)
- Upload COVID and flu vaccination documentation into facility system prior to start
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks; guaranteed hours otherwise
Additional Notes
- Hurricane season (June–November) may require assignment to emergency response teams; avoid confirming new or extension contracts during peak months (Aug–Sept) if this is a concern
- Local candidates accepted within 60-mile radius at a reduced rate (not applicable for pay details here)
This position offers an opportunity to work in a newly established telemetry unit with supportive leadership and a structured night shift schedule. It requires solid telemetry nursing experience, current certifications, and compliance with comprehensive health and background requirements.
