Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract

Location

  • New Brunswick, New Jersey

Employment Type

  • Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Work Schedule

  • Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Friday/Saturday)
  • Floating: Will float between PICU, Emergency Department, and Adult Critical Care; additional float units possible based on skill set and hospital needs

Patient Population

  • Adult and pediatric patients

Required Experience

  • Minimum 1.5 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
  • PICU/NICU experience highly preferred
  • First-time travelers accepted (prior travel experience not required)

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • New Jersey Respiratory Therapist License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) certification
  • Advanced certifications such as ACLS, PALS, and NRP are highly preferred but can be obtained onsite

Clinical Skills and Procedures

  • Blood gas analysis
  • Ventilator, BiPAP, and High Flow initiation and management
  • Code response and in-house transport
  • Medication administration
  • Chest physiotherapy

Equipment Experience

  • Servo I ventilators
  • V60 BiPAP machines

Documentation System

  • EPIC electronic health record system

Required Documentation and Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID and driver's license (must be provided within 48 hours of signing)
  • Criminal background check within 30 days of start (including alias and multi-level searches)
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel urine test)
  • Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
  • Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing (RespSafety clearance required annually)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol
  • Annual influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
  • Completion of required competency exams including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, IV therapy/infusion, and pass/fail testing for EKG and medication
  • Color blindness test if job tasks require color discrimination
  • Completion of facility-specific education and attestations (e.g., annual education sign-off, floating policy)
  • References: Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history and verification of at least 1 year prior work history (New Jersey state requirement)

Additional Requirements

  • Must submit all time-off requests with application and have them approved before offer
  • Must complete facility-required safety and compliance training annually (OSHA, HIPAA, Joint Commission)
  • Floating policy acknowledgment required for each new assignment
  • Must comply with facility-specific policies regarding fit testing, latex allergy screening, and elder abuse education

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in New Jersey
  • Minimum 1.5 years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) certification
