Description

Registered Nurse - Medical/Surgical Telemetry

Location: Waco, Texas
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 06:45 AM – 07:15 PM


Job Description

  • Provide direct nursing care following established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Implement and monitor patient care plans; assess and communicate patient condition.
  • Coordinate care among all disciplines to ensure well-coordinated patient care.
  • Execute physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patient discharge planning with the healthcare team.
  • Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a stressful environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas.
  • Minimum 1 year of Medical/Surgical Telemetry experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Certification in NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Onboarding and Compliance Requirements

  • Submission of professional resume/profile and at least two professional references prior to assignment.
  • Current, unexpired Driver’s License or State ID matching address on file.
  • Completion of specialty competency exams with minimum 80% passing score, including:
    • Specialty Exam (updated every 3 years)
    • Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA, etc.)
    • EKG Exam (updated every 3 years)
  • Completion of Epic system test-out and training checklist with signed attestation.
  • Completion of onboarding education attestation and contract worker onboarding modules.
  • Health and immunization documentation including:
    • MMR (two vaccines or positive titer; no declinations accepted)
    • Varicella (two vaccines, immunity evidence, or history; no declinations accepted)
    • Tdap (valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination
    • Influenza vaccine (optional; if declined, mask required during flu season)
    • Fit Test for respiratory protection (annual update required)
    • 2-Step PPD or IGRA testing for TB with annual questionnaire
    • Positive PPD requires negative chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Statement of good health or completed physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually.
  • 12 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days prior to start and annually thereafter.
  • Criminal background check including Social Security Trace, OIG Search, National Sex Offender Registry, and others within 90 days prior to start; updated annually or after break in service >90 days.
  • Employment and education verifications completed within 90 days prior to start; updated annually or after break in service >90 days.
  • Confirmation of assignment documentation upon initial assignment and each extension.
  • Completion of skills checklist within one year of start and updated annually.

Additional Information

  • Optional: Forward-facing badge photo with white or blue background (no filters or alterations).
  • Optional: Unit-specific checklist may be required by unit leader within one week of assignment start.
  • Post-assignment hiring manager evaluation may be requested.
  • Legal documentation of name change if applicable.

This position requires a dedicated RN with Medical/Surgical Telemetry experience, strong clinical skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Compliance with all licensing, certification, health, and onboarding requirements is mandatory.
