Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse
Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (MedSurg RN)
- Shift: Day shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Patient Ratios: Typically 1:6; may flex to 1:7 during unplanned absences
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-Call: Yes, as needed for low census
- Floating: Required to float within scope to like units or sister facilities
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Experience administering insulin
- Experience with Rapid Response
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Hours per Week: 48 hours
- Block Scheduling: May request approval prior to assignment (not guaranteed)
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Locals: Not accepted for this position
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
- Immunizations & Titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination; boosters allowed if low/non-reactive titer
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
- Tuberculosis Testing:
- Negative 2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold within 90 days of contract start (T-spot not accepted)
- If positive, chest X-ray required
- Drug Screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for respirator use
- COVID-19: Vaccination not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
- Seasonal Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations; documentation deadline December 5
Background & Verification
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including:
- SSN trace
- Statewide and national criminal checks
- Sex offender registry
- FACIS 3 and international searches if applicable
- Employment verification and clinical references required
- Education verification not required for this facility, but diploma/transcripts preferred as placeholder if needed
- Nursys license verification required for RNs
- Radiation badge may be required depending on unit assignment (not typical for MedSurg)

- Copy of Social Security Card or SSN for I-9 verification
- Signed facility-specific documents including:
- Assignment Acknowledgment
- Code of Conduct
- Employee Confidentiality Agreement
- HIPAA Confidentiality Agreement
- Systems User Agreement
- Job Description acknowledgment
- Passport-style photo for badge (frontal, shoulders up, solid light background)
- Completion of orientation modules prior to start (approx. 4 hours)
- Upload COVID and flu vaccination documentation into facility system
Additional Notes
- Facility has 34 staffed beds
- Charting is done via Epic
- Free parking available
- Hurricane season (June–November) may require emergency response team participation; avoid confirming new or extension assignments during peak months (August–September) if this is a concern
This position welcomes first-time travel nurses. Prior travel experience is not required.
