Medical Surgical Oncology

Job Overview

• Location: Columbus, Ohio
• Employment type: Travel/Contract
• Shift: Night, 3x12 hours
• Weekly hours: 36
• Contract length: 16 weeks

Unit Details

• Med-surg unit with hematology/oncology focus
• Hematology oncology experience is preferred but not required
• Med-surg experience is required
• Floating may be required to other Med/Surg and Oncology units
• Staffing ratio goal is 1:4, with up to 1:5
• Weekends are variable based on unit needs
• No set or blocked scheduling

Patient Population / Common Diagnoses

• Lymphoma
• Multiple myeloma
• Acute leukemias
• Chronic leukemias
• Sickle cell disease
• Other non-cancer hematology conditions
• Other benign hematology conditions

Procedures and Clinical Skills

• Chemotherapy
• Blood transfusions
• IV antibiotics
• Oncologic emergencies, including tumor lysis syndrome and cytokine release syndrome
• Insulin drips
• Heparin drips
• Infection prevention and fall prevention
• Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
• Rapid response team use
• Feeding tube care and management
• IV therapy and phlebotomy
• Blood product administration
• Central line blood draws
• Peripheral line care and management
• PICC line management
• Starting IVs

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Ohio
• Med Surg / Telemetry (1 year of experience)
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• ACLS
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Central line blood draw
• PICC line management

Preferred Qualifications

• Hematology oncology experience
• Oncology experience
• ONS certification

Additional Notes

• EPIC is used for computerized charting
• Parking is available through multiple permit options at additional cost
