Description
Registered Nurse – Telemetry Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Newport News, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Description
- 54-bed Cardiovascular telemetry unit divided into three 18-bed wings
- Cardiovascular Telemetry (CVT) patients also cared for in Overflow unit
- Flexible scheduling preferred
- Every other weekend required, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights
- Holiday shifts may be required if holidays fall during assignment
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
- Minimum of 1 year telemetry experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross (current, in-person or equivalent; online CPR not accepted)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross (current, in-person or equivalent; online CPR not accepted)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Completion of required continuing education units (CEUs)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID and valid driver’s license (required for all Home Health & Hospice positions; may be requested)
- Background check: 7-year criminal history, including all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Fingerprinting: Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check (effective 7/15/2025)
- Physical exam within last 12 months
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within last 12 months (or physician-signed clearance if positive)
- Drug screen within last 12 months
- Immunizations/vaccinations:
- Rubeola (Measles): 2 vaccines or positive titer (exempt if born before 1957)
- Mumps: 2 vaccines or positive titer (exempt if born before 1957)
- Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (exempt if born before 1957)
- Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or facility-specific declination
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Seasonal Flu vaccine required during flu season (10/1–3/31) with hard documentation deadline; medical/religious exemptions accepted with approval
- COVID vaccine series preferred but not mandatory; declination form accepted
- Photo for badge: recent, professional headshot meeting specific facility criteria
- Signed facility-specific agreements and policies prior to start (confidentiality, dress code, safety, drug-free policy, hand hygiene)
- Stroke education CEUs required annually (6 or 8 hours depending on unit)
- Pass/fail competency testing (medication/pharmacology and other relevant competencies) to be completed during orientation
- Two professional references required
- Employment application/resume required

- Locals allowed to apply at the same rate as travelers
- Orientation includes computer-based learning (CBL) with multiple attempts allowed for passing tests
- Scheduling flexibility and weekend/night availability are critical for this role
