Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU (Travel/Contract)

Location

  • Morgantown, West Virginia

Position Details

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 PM to 7 AM)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks (possible extension)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2 (acuity-based; may include step-down level care patients)
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System: Cerner

Job Description

  • Provide care in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
  • Must have experience with:
    • Activated Clotting Time (ACT)
    • Direct fresh open-heart admissions from the Operating Room (OR)
    • Cardiac surgery skills including pressure monitoring and Swan-Ganz catheter management
    • Impella device monitoring
    • Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
  • Blocked schedules are an option

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in West Virginia
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience with:
    • Activated Clotting Time (ACT)
    • Direct fresh open-heart admissions from the Operating Room (OR)
    • Pressure monitoring
    • Swan-Ganz catheter management
    • Impella device monitoring
    • Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during work hours)
  • Proof of E-Verify or attestation
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year criminal history check (all locations lived/worked in past 7 years)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (updated every contract renewal)
    • Education verification and transcript/diploma (required for Cath Lab RNs)
  • Health requirements:
    • Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands (initial and annual)
    • Immunizations and titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (titers or vaccines)
    • Negative TB test (2-step PPD within 1 year or equivalent)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years preferred)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
    • COVID vaccine or declination required
    • Drug screening: 10-panel within 30 days of start and annually
  • Competency exams and color blindness testing as applicable
  • Completion of facility-specific learning modules including Cerner EMR training prior to start
  • ReadySet (RS) health assessment surveys completed before start date
  • Submission packet must include:
    • Candidate profile/work history
    • Specialty-specific skills checklist (updated annually)
    • Minimum 2 clinical or charge references from past 2 years
    • RN license verification (recently pulled)
    • Copies of all required certifications

Additional Notes

  • Scrubs are not provided
  • Photo for badge required prior to clearance
  • Point of Care Technician application required for Cath Lab RNs (if applicable)
  • All certifications must be current and on file before start; no pending certifications allowed
  • Stroke education CEUs (8 hours annually) required for certain units; NIH Stroke Certification counts toward CEUs if it includes continuing education credits

This position is ideal for experienced CVICU RNs with strong cardiac surgery and critical care skills seeking a travel contract opportunity with a structured night shift schedule.
