Description
ICU RN
Overview
- Travel contract in Long Beach, California
- 13-week assignment
- 12-hour night shifts
- 36 hours per week
Unit Details
- ICU unit
- 32 beds, licensed for 40, set up in pods of 8
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 2:1
- Floating: Tele and any ED ICU/Tele holds
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in California
- BLS
- ACLS
- NIHSS
- 2 full years of ICU experience
- Available to work 2 of the 3 major holidays
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 years of ICU experience
Schedule
- Every other weekend
- Holidays rotate with core staff
Clinical Environment
- Charge nurse present with no patient assignment
- Resource RN may take a patient assignment
- Usually 1 nurse aide on days only
- No monitor techs; RNs read and interpret their own strips
- Pressors, antiarrhythmics, sedation, and vents are used
- Hospitalist or intensivist in house
- RT and pharmacy available 24/7
Orientation
- Day 1: 8 hours with ICU educator and 4 hours with preceptor
- Day 2: 12 hours with preceptor
Patient Population
- Higher level neuro, cardiac, PCI, sepsis, ETOH, stroke
- Ventrics, TBI, Camino ICP monitoring
Additional Notes
- Huddle report and bedside report
- No acrylic nails or gel polish allowed during assignment
